Origin: Maemuro, Takamineson, Shimajiri County, Okinawa Prefecture
Born: October 16, 1880
​Immigrated to Hawaii: 1906, age 26
He landed on the island of Hawaii in 1906, and became a very active member in 1917 serving the community. During the visits of grand priests Kami-i, Itsushima and Sakai he assisted the service. On the New Year’s Day of 1932 he became a special follower of Jodo Sect, and currently is a member of Hakalau Jodo Mission Meishokai. From May 1932 to May 1933 he was an executive at the affiliated school. 
For the Hakalau Kuleana, our responsibility is to care for the land, the people, and the culture. We are guided by cultural values of YESTERDAY: Engage in collective effort. Look out for each other. Honor hard work. Show respect for those who came before us. Aloha and Mālama `Aina. In 2021, Akiko Masuda added two more values to the list: Consistently show up. Whatever has to be done, jump in and do it!
