Origin: Matsue Village, Kaiso County, Wakayama Prefecture
Birthdate: March 10, 1877
Immigrated to United States: 1894, age 22
In 1894 he left his home country with a grand dream for life in the United States, and later moved to Hakalau. For the past 15 years he has worked very hard for the church and its school. Currently he works very closely with school business.

Last year (1932) his wife and his first son, Yasuo received higher teachings from grand priest Sakai. 
For the Hakalau Kuleana, our responsibility is to care for the land, the people, and the culture. We are guided by cultural values of YESTERDAY: Engage in collective effort. Look out for each other. Honor hard work. Show respect for those who came before us. Aloha and Mālama `Aina. In 2021, Akiko Masuda added two more values to the list: Consistently show up. Whatever has to be done, jump in and do it!
