About our presentors:
Rev. Junshin Miyazaki, from Japan and the son of a Buddhist minister, has served as the Hakalau Jodo Mission’s minister since 2009. He also serves the Kurtistown Jodo Mission and is the resident minister of Hilo Meishoin. His knowledge of history provides context for our understanding of Buddhism and Obon.
Akiko Masuda, of Akiko’s Buddhist Bed and Breakfast and the President of Wailea Village Historic Preservation Community, is a dancer and great storyteller. She provides the leadership and “spark” for many activities within the Wailea-Hakalau community, including Senior Luncheons, Reviving Hakalau School, and Cemetery Stewardship…and bon dance!
