The Hakalau Jodo Mission has four major commitments to the community:
2017 Services at Hakalau Jodo Mission
The Hakalau Jodo Mission hosts Memorial Day ceremonies at the Hakalau Veteran's Memorial Park each year. Current and former residents and relatives of those killed in military conflict gather to show respect and celebrate our community life.
Periodically, the Hakalau Jodo Missions holds ceremonies to celebrate anniversaries of the mission and other special occasions.
Held weekly, these luncheons feature great food, music, exercise, companionship, and lots of laughter. This is a Project Dana* Program supported by Miyo Harumi of Miyo's Restaurant who prepares the food for the Senior Luncheons at Hakalau Jodo Mission. (*Dana means selfless giving.)
Each August, the Jodo Mission comes alive with the celebration of Obon, a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one's ancestore. This festival is complete with music, dancing, laughter and lots of food!
